The Speech Transmission Index meter from the inventors of STIPA
Measuring the Speech Transmission Index has never been easier - or more affordable.
The Bedrock SM50 is a full-featured acoustic measuring instrument, designed from the
ground up by the development team at Embedded Acoustics - the team that invented
STIPA. You will easily navigate through its functions thanks to the full-colour touch
screen, and retrieve your stored measurement data through USB. The device is fully
compliant to all the newest standards, and has several unique features to ensure that
you get the most accurate and reliable results of any STI measuring device.
Why choose the SM50?
Doing an STI measurement will literally be as simple as pressing a button. If you will be doing Speech Transmission Index measurements only infrequently, perhaps once in a while, you will appreciate the instrument's ease-of-use and intuitive user interface - no need to memorize complex menu structures. But even the most demanding STI user will still find every option he or she ever needed on the device. The "STIPA pro" mode gives instant access to all measurement details, including the MTF values. A unique feature of the Bedrock SM50 (and SM90) is the availability of a Full STI measurement.
The SM50 has more to offer than just STI measurements. Such as the integrated Sound Pressure Level meter with all the usual settings (including A, C and Z-weighting, fast-slow and Leq) a Real-Time Analyzer (RTA) and reverberation time measurements (RT60). Different measurement modes are accessed through an easy-to-use menu.
The SM50 STIPA meter is built from top-notch digital and analog components. Its multi-range pre-amplifier offers an impressive combined measuring range of more than 110 dB. The SM50 comes standard with a Type 2/Class 2 measuring microphone, but will work with any measuring microphone that operates on 48V phantom power. Working with line-level input signals from an external source is also easy.

Cost-effective and easy-to-use signal source for STIPA testing
In order to carry out STIPA or Full STI measurements, of course you need an STI
analyzer, such as the Bedrock SM50 or AM100. But the only way to get reliable
test results is to also use an accurately calibrated signal source: the Bedrock BTB65
TalkBox. This device provides STI signals as well as a variety of other acoustic test
signals. When performing tests, it is simply placed in front of the tested system’s
microphone instead of a human talker. The BTB65 is designed for accuracy and
reliability, but also for ease of use. The touch screen interface makes it easy to control,
and various features (such as an integrated laser pointer to assist in alignment) make
testing easy and simple.
Why choose the BTB65?
The standards that define how STI tests need to be carried out require that a calibrated loudspeaker is used as a signal source. A very elaborate and strict set of specifications is imposed on the loudspeaker, and with reason. Calibrating the signal source is crucial to the accuracy and succes of any STI test. From a technical
perspective, it is by far the hardest
and most time-consuming step
in setting up an STI test. Unless
you use the Bedrock BTB65, in
which case the device does all this
work for you. It makes sure that
the test signals are reproduced
with the correct sound level and
spectrum, and that the STIPA
signal complies exactly with the
standard.
The BTB65 is extremely easy to use. It features a simply and intuitive touch display, which lets you control all device features without having to go through complex multi-level devic menus. All features can be seen at a glance, and controlled with a single touch.
If you need a calibrated electronic output signal instead of an acoustic signal, you can use the balanced line out on the back of the device (in parallel with the loudspeaker, if you like). Or you can choose to use the TalkBox simply as an accurately calibrated loudspeaker through its line input. The handy
integrated laser pointer helps you
to align the tested microphone
with the loudspeaker axis in a
matter of seconds.
